PHILODENDRON MICANS
Philodendron Micans is one of my absolute favourites. The velvety soft leaves and redish hue make it an easy care shop stopper.
LIGHT
Your Philodendron Mican will thrive in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch its delicate leaves. It can also tolerate lower light conditions, but growth may slow.
WATER
Water your Philodendron Micans when the top 5 to 10cm of soil feels dry. Ensure the soil is evenly moist but not waterlogged. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
SOIL
A well-draining soil mix is ideal for Philodendron Micans. Visit our soil bar and add equal parts perlite, and orchid bark to a standard houseplant mix.
FERTILISER
Feed your plant monthly during the Spring and Summer months with a houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength.
TEMPERATURE
Standard household temperatures are fine for Philodendron Micans, but avoid cold draughts and sudden temperature changes.
HUMIDITY
This plant loves high humidity. Achieve this by musing a humidifier, grouping plants together, or placing a tray of water near the plant.
TOXICITY
Considered toxic to humans and animals.
General Watering Tips
Place your plant, still in its plastic nursery pot, inside the decorative pot you've chosen. This setup allows the plant to enjoy the drainage and airflow provided by the nursery pot's holes, which are beneficial for root health.
When it’s time to water, you have two options:
1. Top Watering: Take the plant, nursery pot and all, out of the decorative pot and water it over a sink. Allow the water to drain completely before placing it back in the decorative pot to prevent water build up.
2. Bottom Watering: Place the nursery pot in a shallow dish of water and let the plant absorb moisture from the bottom. This method encourages the roots to grow downward and reduces the risk of overwatering.
Both methods help keep your plant healthy by promoting good drainage and root aeration.
