STRING OF HEARTS
A beautiful trailing plant with delicate heart shaped leaves. They look great when allowed to cascade from a shelf or displayed in one of our plant hangers.
WATER
Allow your String of Hearts to dry out completely then soak the soil ensuring all the water has fully drained away and then allow to dry out completely before watering again.
LIGHT
String of Hearts prefer lots of bright indirect light. They can tolerate some morning or late afternoon direct sunlight but you should avoid direct midday sunlight as this will scorch the delicate leaves.
FERTILISING
You can feed your String of Hearts once a month during the spring and summer months.
SOIL
A well draining soil mix is essential for a String of Hearts, they will thrive best in a mix designed for cacti or succulents. You can achieve this by adding horticultural sand, grit and perlite to a standard houseplant soil.
TEMPERATURE
String of Hearts prefer to be warm, most household temperatures will be fine as long as they are away from any cold drafts.
HUMIDITY
Standard household humidity is fine for a String of Hearts.
TOXIC
String of Hearts are considered non toxic to humans and animals.
General Watering Tips
Place your plant, still in its plastic nursery pot, inside the decorative pot you've chosen. This setup allows the plant to enjoy the drainage and airflow provided by the nursery pot's holes, which are beneficial for root health.
When it’s time to water, you have two options:
1. Top Watering: Take the plant, nursery pot and all, out of the decorative pot and water it over a sink. Allow the water to drain completely before placing it back in the decorative pot to prevent water build up.
2. Bottom Watering: Place the nursery pot in a shallow dish of water and let the plant absorb moisture from the bottom. This method encourages the roots to grow downward and reduces the risk of overwatering.
Both methods help keep your plant healthy by promoting good drainage and root aeration.
