VENUS FLY TRAP
The iconic Venus flytrap is a small carnivorous plant that catches and eats insects. It has special leaves that snap shut when tiny hairs inside them are touched by an insect. This helps the plant get nutrients it can't get from the soil.

WATER
Venus flytraps are very sensitive to minerals found in tap water, so rain water is best. Venus Fly Traps are bog plants so they like to be consistently moist but not waterlogged. A shallow tray of water under the pot can help maintain moisture.
LIGHT
Venus flytraps thrive in bright, direct sunlight. Aim for at least 4-6 hours of full sun daily.
FERTILISING
Your Venus Fly Trap will not need fertilising. They get their nutrients from capturing insects and giving them extra plant feed can damage the plant.
SOIL
Your Venus Fly Trap is unlikely to need re-potting for quite some time. Added Spagnum Moss and and perlite is key for when you do.
TEMPERATURE
During the Summer they will thrive in a warm sunny spot. In the winter a period of dormancy is key to maintain their health, for this they need reduced watering and cooler temperatures.
HUMIDITY
Venus Fly Traps love increased humidity! Keeping them watered with a shallow tray of water as advised above will help to increase humidity also.
TOXICITY
They are considered non toxic to humand and animals.
General Watering Tips
Place your plant, still in its plastic nursery pot, inside the decorative pot you've chosen. This setup allows the plant to enjoy the drainage and airflow provided by the nursery pot's holes, which are beneficial for root health.
When it’s time to water, you have two options:
1. Top Watering: Take the plant, nursery pot and all, out of the decorative pot and water it over a sink. Allow the water to drain completely before placing it back in the decorative pot to prevent water build up.
2. Bottom Watering: Place the nursery pot in a shallow dish of water and let the plant absorb moisture from the bottom. This method encourages the roots to grow downward and reduces the risk of overwatering.
Both methods help keep your plant healthy by promoting good drainage and root aeration.
